My Remembrance Day, Remembrance

So, I wrote this a while ago... As we remember and honour those who died in the First and Second World Wars and subsequent conflicts, I always think about the ones I called the invisible soldiers. In particular the African and Caribbean soldiers who died fighting in the First and Second World Wars. Their sacrifice is only now being acknowledged and with that only a delayed acknowledgement in the stake their descendants also have in all that defines our nation. It's important that we all remember that these freedoms were won by many for the benefit of us all and not simply to be enjoyed by the few.....

So here it is....

I will not remember how you called them to arms as though sons of the soil,

and how once dead, their lives spent,

they were then un-sonned.

I will not remember the words spoken to their mothers, the false promises made to their fathers...

I will not remember their screams or their cries,

I will not remember their sacrifice,

I will not remember their lives, spent growing your power,

for our purported common good

I will not remember, I will not remember, I will not remember,

I WILL NOT REMEMBER,

as, I’ve watched you convince the world to forget.
